What Inspires You?

OUTFIT: T by Alexander Wang dress & Doc Martens boots

I've always found it intriguing to find out why people dress the way they do. Like for example why some people simply couldn't care less and why some people just HAVE to be in on the latest trend. I'm mostly curious about those people who stand out from the crowd and have a very unique personal style. I feel like visual style is a way of understanding people's story. The clothes you wear and how you style them are a part of your personal brand. It's about finding your own voice and persona and expressing that through your clothes. I'm an old soul so I'm naturally very drawn to the '80s when I look for fashion inspiration. You might have seen me wear bustiers, high waisted trousers, waist belts etc. which is all inspired by '80s music icons, '80s cinematography and '80s runway shows. Though my heart is forever beating for '80s fashion, I do find a lot of inspiration in today's society as well.
One of the more current time things that really inspires me and has my attention is the queer nightlife scene. Specifically the New York City club scene. The new club kids and drag queens and night life legends are so amazing. During the night time the creative souls come through. These youth subcultures can to some seem like a cult, but I think it's just a bunch of creative, likeminded individuals who come together and create an atmosphere. Generally love everything out of the ordinary so i'm without a doubt fascinated by night life legends. Heck, sometimes I even scroll through my feed and sigh in frustration as I just really, really want to be a part of the fun. I once heard a club kid say something along the lines of looking at haute couture from your favourite fashion designer is how you find inspiration and can create your own club kid look which is perfect for you.

That leads me on to another great source of my fashion inspirations; My favourite fashion designers and their runway shows throughout the years. I'm particularly hooked on Maison Martin Margiela whom is my all time favourite. I'm also very much in love with '90s Azzedine Alaïa, '80s Yves Saint Laurent, Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto and Issey Miyake.

What inspires you in fashion (and in life)?

  1. The 80's were a fabulous time. I always say I was born too late.

  2. I love 80s fashion as well! Love your outfit with the fishnets, you look fab x
